P’unchaw

In Quechua, the ancestral language of the Andean region of South America, P’unchaw means  “sunlight.”      This project  explored the historic capital of the Incan  civilization, Cusco, through light and shadow, creating a visual testimony of how this unique  glow defines the city.

WE DON’T MAKE RAP , WE MAKE FAMILY

This project is a portray of the Peruvian Hiphop scene. Within Hip-hop there is something hidden, far from the stereotypes that are presented to us: it is knowledge, identity, grassroots organizing, self-management, family, and attitude. It is a way of life.

AMALGAMA

This project focuses on the link between human beings and nature through traditions, spirituality, rituals or tools that are born from the amalgamation of various cultures and connect us with our roots and ancestral memory in a healing process.

RAP ON THEIR ROOTS

Quechua is considered the most widely spoken ancestral language in Peru. Discrimination against  ancient cultures has been one of the factors that makes it difficult for younger generations  to learn this language of their ancestors. I consider myself part of the generation who didn’t learn the language from their parents.
In hip-hop culture, the ancients languages finds a means of free expresion. Rap and hip hop have become powerful tools to form links between the ancestral and the modern, providing the possibility for these generations to heal, to recognize themselves, to find their roots and reinforce their personal identity within their communityThis project is supported by National Geographic
